You'll probably notice that I start my students with a hand position that isn't standard. During my first few years of teaching, I did encourage playing with the usual curved position shown in method books. I learned the hand position demonstrated here from a teacher trainer whom I apprenticed with, and find it gives students much better control of the keys, and encourages better relaxation of their hands.
